The gymnasium attached to the Emile Loubet Elementary School in the city of Arles had several acoustic issues. With its hard surfaces, large openings to the outside, and high ceilings, the space was prone to excessive reverberation. This led to poor sound intelligibility and disruptions to the children's and teachers' sports and educational activities.
To address the acoustic challenges encountered in this Arles school gymnasium, Home International considered both the functional and aesthetic needs of the space. Based on an acoustic study and current standards for this type of community, an acoustic treatment strategy was developed.
The installation of the suspended and wall-mounted acoustic panels took into account the structural and functional characteristics of the space. The suspended panels were strategically positioned to maximize their effectiveness in reducing reverberation time, while the wall panels were seamlessly integrated to complement the overall acoustic treatment of the room.
In addition to their primary function of acoustic correction, the panels were chosen for their discreet aesthetic and ability to blend seamlessly into the existing environment. The colors were carefully selected to create a pleasant and soothing visual ambiance, thus contributing to the overall atmosphere of the gymnasium.
This bespoke approach radically transformed the gymnasium's acoustics, creating a comfortable sound environment conducive to learning and sports practice.
Indoor recreation is now possible, and a choir project has even been launched!
“The noise is more contained, more muted. It’s pleasant!” – Year 5 teacher
